Project: Corteza Collection
Client: Andes International
Role: Industrial Designer / Lead Product Designer
Project Overview
The dining table for the Andes Collection was designed as a monumental centerpiece that bridges raw natural beauty with strict geometric precision. The objective was to create a piece with a gallery-like presence for high-end residential spaces, treating functional furniture with the same reverence as a work of art.
At the core of this design is the concept of a sculpture resting upon a pedestal. The focal point is the tabletop: a massive, solid wood slab featuring a pristine "live edge" (corteza). This detail proudly preserves the rustic, untamed, and organic contours of the tree, ensuring no two tables are exactly alike.
To elevate this organic masterpiece, the base was deliberately designed to contrast the top. Conceived as a minimalist, monolithic box crafted from rich, veneered wood, the base acts as an architectural plinth. Through careful structural engineering, a subtle separation is created between the heavy solid top and the box beneath it. This creates a striking visual illusion: the massive, natural wood slab appears to weightlessly float above its foundation.
